Why Brody Jenner took so long to join ‘The Hills’ reboot

Brody Jenner is finally confirmed to join “The Hills” reboot after months-long negotiations with MTV.

Jenner signed a deal with the network on Thursday, an insider told Page Six, noting that his appearance was contingent upon how much of his personal life he wanted to reveal.

“Brody had a very private life,” the insider explained. “He hasn’t really been out there. He wanted to make a deal that works for him after deciding what he wanted to have on TV.”

Jenner was a fixture during the initial run of “The Hills” and even received his own spinoff, “Bromance.” He stepped out of the limelight afterward and rarely appeared alongside his half-siblings Kendall and Kylie in earlier seasons of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” Our insider told us that he remains close with them despite the fact that they “didn’t bother” to RSVP to his June wedding.

His dad, Caitlyn Jenner, didn’t attend the nuptials either.

“He wasn’t sure if he wanted to be in the public eye on the heels of his dad’s transition,” the insider added. “Caitlyn wasn’t there for him growing up and he wasn’t sure if he wanted to talk about it again. Family is important to him. He’s very much a mama’s boy.”

Jenner, 35, did limited interviews during Caitlyn’s coming out period in 2015 with his most notable appearance being “20/20” with Diane Sawyer.

Now, our insider tells us “The Hills” is set to be “a lot more about Brody Jenner.”

“The Hills: New Beginnings” was announced at the MTV VMAs in August.
