Former Manhattan US Lawyer Preet Bharara joked that his new e-book was “written within the midst of an involuntary job change” — after he was canned by President Trump in 2017.

Sharing an excerpt of his upcoming “Doing Justice,” Bharara joked to the cream of the publishing and media crop on the Literacy Companions’ Night of Readings gala, “It’s awkward to be in entrance of you all and now not be capable to subpoena you. Now all I can do is ask you to purchase my e-book.”

Howard Stringer offered “60 Minutes” vet Lesley Stahl with the Lizzie Award, named after the Literacy Companions’ late benefactor (and Put up columnist) Liz Smith. Stringer mentioned of Stahl: “She’s gotten extra scoops than Ben & Jerry.”

The occasion raised $1.1 million to assist finish illiteracy.
