Tonight, Grey’s Anatomy will go on hiatus after the airing of its winter finale.
Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long until the return of Meredith and the rest of the Grey Sloan gang– Grey’s Anatomy will return Thursday, January 18, at 8pm ET.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Tonight’s winter finale is bound to be an exciting one– so exciting, in fact, that Krista Vernoff describes it as an ‘edge-of-your-seat action movie’.
Tonight, a hacker will infiltrate the hospital’s computer’s system, thereby turning everything at Grey Sloan on its head. Vernoff tells EW, “There’s a hacking at the hospital that is shockingly consequential… When Bill Harper pitched it in the writers’ room, my initial reaction was, ‘Isn’t the midseason finale usually a giant storm?’ and he was like, ‘It’s a giant storm, the consequences of what happens when a hospital gets hacked in this way.’ He pitched me these plot twists that were mind-blowing.”
Last week’s 300th episode was an emotional one for many life-long Grey’s fans. It paid homage to characters we’ve lost, and truly miss.
A roller coaster accident sent a group of patients to the hospital. What made it different than most trauma scenarios was that the group of people on the roller coaster were the spitting image (and also had the same personalities) of some of the most beloved characters we’ve lost– Cristina, George, Izzie, and Derek.
There were many hidden easter eggs thrown in the episode, as pointed out by BuzzFeed. One of them was that Ray and Nicole, the two medics who bring in the pair trapped in the rollercoaster, have appeared in a number of other iconic Grey’s episodes. The George, Izzie, and Cristina 2.0’s also wore similar clothing to their dopplegangers– fans seemed to pick that one up on Twitter. Another big easter egg was the song “They”, which originally played in the pilot.
Be sure to check out the winter finale of Grey’s Anatomy tonight at 8pm ET/PT.
